First Look: Canon’s 2009 VIXIA camcorders
CanonĀ launched its VIXIA 2009 range at CES this year with several storage options ranging from pure flash drivesĀ to hard drives to MiniDV. The line up includes the HF S10, a memory of 32 GB internal flash camcorder with an external SDHC slot, the S100 HF, HF cousin S10, which has no internal flash memory, using only an SDHC slot for storage The HF20 with 32 GB of internal flash memory and an SDHC slot, and the HF200 is similar to the 20 without external SDHC slot. All four models are built in flash Face Detection, which alerts the autofocus to monitor people’s faces and they were all listed at 24 Mb / s, the fastest speed possible for the AVCHD format.
Canon has a new HD based on MiniDV tape, the HV40, which receives a personal touch and have 24p/30p rate options. He has an uncomfortable hand against flash memory camcorders in the Canon line, but the controls work well, and menu systems are easy to navigate. Continue to sell the Canon HG20 and HG21 Camcorders HDD line based on last year.
The S10 and S100 HF HF arrive with a 8.59 megapixel CMOS sensor, DIGIC DV III, provided all the time shooting 8-megapixel still images and video to 1080p as well. The S10 is different from the S100 with 32 GB of internal flash memory, the two are essentially the same outside. Both offer a comfortable grip with controls logically placed for 10x zoom lens and video recording. The zoom switch is a bit uneven, but should be easily adjusted for regular use, and menu commands are easy to read and use the LCD (no optical viewfinder in one of the new models). HF S models have a custom function button, and a 1.7x teleconverter high, reaching almost double the optical zoom, with the launch of a switch.
The HF20 and HF200 offers 15x zoom in organisms that are lighter than the HF series S, but not ergonomic, and without the 8-megapixel CMOS sensor. The HF series has a 3.89 megapixel DIGIC DV III CMOS sensor, which offers 1080p video, but the images of 3.3 megapixels.
